The Building Automation Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of building automation systems (BAS) at all campuses.

 

The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus five days per week. Travel between campus locations will be required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for all maintenance and repairs, service, upgrades, and programming changes to BAS at all campus locations including integration with all mechanical systems
  • Plans and implements a continuous re-commissioning strategy of mechanical systems in conjunction with other trade staff; reviews and verifies campus utility bills
  • Re-commissions mechanical systems including boilers, chillers, pumps, and fan systems; maintains accurate documentation of such systems
  • Completes daily checks of all BAS systems
  • Provides input and suggestions for energy saving initiatives including monitoring usage and power quality, etc. through the Computerized Energy Management System (CEMS) and reviews utility charges as well as input for utility purchases
  • Assists other College trade staff in completion of their duties including control wiring, electrical work and general maintenance if required
  • Assists contractors on various projects as they relate to BAS and mechanical systems
  • Active in health and safety planning and accident prevention; adhering to procedures and safe work practices as required, and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and regulations

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Three-year Diploma in Electronic/Electrical/Controls Engineering Technologist or Energy System Engineering Technologist is required
  • Minimum eight years of experience working on complex Building Automation Systems
  • Additional courses in the following are considered an asset:
    • Advanced CCT Programming
    • VS-Series Drives Commissioning
    • DX-9100/HVAC-PRO programming and commissioning
    • Commissioning and Troubleshooting System Extended Architecture (BACnet)
    • Configuring and troubleshooting an Ethernet/Ip Network
    • Carrier 3V CCNWeb and I-Vu systems
    • Knowledge in Skyspark(IoT) platform used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and energy data to improve building performance and platform and IoT
  • Good working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical plant equipment such as boilers, chillers, pumps, constant air volume and variable air volume systems
  • Experience with Johnson Controls (JCI) Metasys and/or Siemens Building Automation System (Desigo/Apogee/ Insight)
  • Proficient in HVAC engineering systems
  • Experience with Building Automation System networking and commissioning
  • Experience with Siemens DXR/TEC Controller programming/commissioning
  • Ability to write and debug computer programs for the building automation system, perform software/hardware calibration required for proper equipment and system operation and perform upgrades to the building automation systems
  • Ability to provide input and suggestions for energy saving initiatives, including monitoring usage and power quality through Computerized Energy Management System (CEMS)
  • Acute awareness of the need for safe work practices
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to identify problems and implement solutions
  • Willingness to undertake safety training once on the job which may First Aid Training, Lockout/Tagout Training, WHMIS Training, etc.
  • Overtime work may be required including evenings and weekends for special events, operational shutdowns, etc.
  • A valid class G license in good standing is required
