We require a qualified individual to join the Trades & Plant Operations team to support the overall operation and maintenance of all primary and secondary water services, sanitary sewers, and heating and cooling water piping. The successful incumbent will work with all other mechanical/electrical trades to ensure efficient operations through a preventive maintenance program and timely repair of breakdowns.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintaining all toilets, urinals, washbasins, and sewer systems
  • Repairing all sewage piping and pumps, fixtures, water piping, including 12-inch
  • Upgrading plumbing systems equipment to allow continuous and updated operations
  • Installing new plumbing systems and equipment
  • Completing all maintenance to manufacturers’ specifications, and applicable codes and legislation
  • Performing chemical testing of water softeners and boilers
  • Maintaining natural gas service
  • Installing and/or maintaining plumbing systems to and from laboratories
  • Repairing, maintaining, and installing air lines, compressors, and regulators
  • Assisting other trades in the completion of their duties
  • Inspecting, servicing, and maintaining Nortec humidifiers
  • Inspecting, servicing, and repairing boilers and associated piping

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Trade Certification as a Journeyperson – Plumber and Gas Technician 2 Certification is required; must be maintained in good standing in the province of Ontario
  • Backflow Prevention Tester Certification is considered an asset
  • Eight years of practical experience in industrial and commercial applications after attaining Certificate of Qualification is required
  • Complete knowledge of current plumbing codes, through upgrading courses
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of hot water boilers systems
  • Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading from architectural to mechanical drawings
  • Ability to assist and check outside contractors’ installations
  • Basic knowledge of sprinkler systems
  • Complete knowledge of safety practices
  • Keeping current within trade by upgrading for any new code amendments
  • Willingness to undertake training once on the job which may include Confined Space Training, First Aid Training, Lockout/Tagout Training, WHMIS Training, Working at Heights training, Elevated work platform training, Arc Flash Awareness Training, Backflow Prevention etc.
  • Travel between campuses may be required; a valid Class G licence in good standing is required Ability to work overtime including evenings and weekends for special events, operational shutdowns, etc.
