Hi,
At loyalist, we setup most of our VORs when going out for quote, usually RFP/RFQ. We add wording in the tender or quoting package that the successful bidder or most recently bidders (2) will be setup as a VOR. We add wording that the successful vendor will be added as a VOR asking the bidders to provide hourly, day, weekend, OT rates, travel, emergency response time etc… For example: AC1 rooftop has failed, working with Purchasing we go out for quote to replace a Rooftop unit valued at $20,000. When awarded, we setup the vendor(s) on an HVAC VOR for future work and projects up to $99,999. Vendors are setup for 3+1+1 years. We have been successful in setting up plumbing, electrical, HVAC, Flooring for $99K and GC which is now set for construction projects at over $300K.
We have also had some success with OECM.
Hope this helps you,
Chris
in reply to: EV Charging Station Use on your Campus #4071Hi Paul,
Below are the answers to your questions from Loyalist.
1. Do you charge EV users a fee to use your stations? Currently we do not but see 4a below.
2. Are you incentivizing users to disconnect their vehicles and parking in a non-EV charging station location once fully charged? At the moment we are not, usage is too low to act on this. see 3 below.
3. If yes, how are you doing this? In the Future we will enforce a 4 hour max time (using the countdown on the charger) using our parking by-Law
4. What penalties do the EV users face if they’re still plugged in when fully charged?
a) Do you ticket/ tow them after a 1 hour grace period? We will issue warnings, most likely 2-3 and then issue $20 parking fines.
b) Do you charge them a higher fee for maintaining their vehicle to park there? We are proposing this upcoming budget year a $25 surcharge for an EV charging parking pass. Not certain if this is going to be approved by the executive team.Chris

in reply to: Forest Fire- re: Air Quality #3764Hi,
At Loyalist, we are asking employees to speak to their manager. Most managers are allowing their staff to work from home when the AQI is high. Do to the constant flow of fresh air coming in to the building, we can’t prevent the smell from entering the building

in reply to: RFP or RFT #3673Hello Robin,
We at Loyalist, for project over $100,000 will do an RFP, the majority (almost all) stipulated price if we have a full tender package with Drawings and Specs. We do not pre-qualified vendors.
Hope this helps.

in reply to: Code Blue Duress Stations – Integration Issues #3520Hi,
Loyalist has Code Blue stations and call posts. We do experience on an infrequent basis some communication issues, same as you noted but our IT department have always been able to correct in-house.

Hello Lan Chi,
We were able to bypass the lengthy RFP process and use OECM under Environmental Services to setup S2S as a multi-year VOR.
If you need more information, please reach out.

in reply to: Unauthorized Campus signage challenge – help! #3380Hi Rich,
Loyalist does not have a formal signage authorization process. If you receive one, please forward on as I would like to implement one. The only thing we have in place is for departments posting signs, not to use tape, they must use Adhesive putty AKA “Ticky Tack”.
We deal with non-compliance:
– unauthorized unwanted signs: Contact the person to tell them to not post on campus. Involve our Police liaison officers as needed. We ask Facilities, Security and the cleaners to remove specific signs.
– Departments not posting properly such as using duct tape, we contact the Dean or Manager to immediately address. We tell them if there are any damages will be charged back (We never do)We have not tried anything innovative as an approach

in reply to: Air conditioning in labs #3377Hi Brian,
At loyalist the oldest kitchen has cooling fed from our Supply Fan & Chiller. The MUA does not have AC, only heat. It bring in a significant amount of outside air so if it is warm outside, it does tend to get warm in the kitchen. The new lab kitchen set to open next month has its own AC. We expect it to be much cooler and climate controlled. Welding, Manufacturing/Fabrication, Automotive and Carpentry do not have AC. They tend to open the large bay door for cooler outside air which is sometimes very warm and humid. The Auto shop installed 2 “Big Ass” fans that are over 16′ diameter that move a lot of air. In 2019, we did run a carpentry course outside over the winter months. They did not have any heating.
Hope this is useful.
Chris.
Hello Oxana,
Purchasing will forward the required documentation to Facilities to review. It is Facilities responsibility to ensure it meets CSA ULC… When the equipment is received, in most cases we are directly involved with the installation which will include an ESA inspection. Should it fail and require modifications, we will work with the equipment owner to modify the equipment, field test it to obtain certification. In some case, if it out of our expertise we will contract out the installation and modification at the owner’s expense.
When there is a dispute if the equipment is or is not compliant, we will ask ESA to perform an inspection.
Hope this helps.

in reply to: Easing of COVID Restrictions on Campus #3161Hello Daryush,
Loyalist is also maintaining mask requirements until at least the end of the semester. We no longer have physical distancing or capacity requirements. We have limited entry points to key doors where guards are verifying double vaccinations either by checking the App or by QR code.

in reply to: Cleaning for common spaces #3000Hi Derek,
Common spaces have been closed throughout. Depending on the phase, we did have a few (very little) cafeteria seats available. They were cleaned between each person. We had a card on the table that was green ok to sit and red on the other side “Requires Sanitization”. When you sat down you flipped the paper over. Seating was right beside where the staff were working so it worked well.
in reply to: Computer Labs in the Fall of 2021 #2840Hi Trevor,
See below, responses to your questions:
1. If you opened your computer labs for the 2020-21 academic year how did you clean the keyboard and mouse?
Utilizing our contracted cleaning staff the keyboard and mouse are wiped down and disinfected at a minimum of 2x during business operational hours. The lab is additionally cleaned and disinfected at night by our contracted cleaning staff. The College also provided students access to virox disinfectant wipes throughout the computer lab area as an opportunity for the students to wipe down their workspace before and after use. Additionally, hand sanitizer dispensers are provided at the printing station and wall-mounted dispenser are located throughout the lab area.2. Are you opening up your computer labs for the fall semester?
We never shut our labs down. Our SAL (Student Access Lab) was drastically scaled back and computer labs were assessed and also downsized.3. How will you be cleaning the keyboard and mouse at each station?
The College will continue with the same process as previously implemented as it has proven affected in keeping our community safe. Virox wipes will be used by both cleaning staff and students on the keyboard and mouse. Post-COVID the College will evaluate the condition of the keyboards and replace any that the keyboard lettering has worn off due to cleaning needs.4. Has their been consideration to move more towards “bring your own device (laptop)”?
Not at this point.5. Has their been consideration to have students bring their own keyboard and mouse?
Not at this point.Let me know if you have any other questions.
