    Yes. Tt Fanshawe, my team worked with H&S and the program coordinator to layout sections of our gym to facilitate physical training.  In one class they’ll be set up into demarcated quadrants, and another, 2-halves.  Max capacity will be 43 which leaves plenty of room for distancing.  We will continue with deep cleaning 2x daily.  The program will be provided with disinfecting supplies to clean between sessions.

    Hi Brent – Fanshawe has only restricted capacities to support safe physical distancing.  Colleges are exempt from the mandate.  For example, our gymnasium supports testing for 102 individuals.

    Fanshawe takes direction from local public health on who and how to notify in a case of infectious or communicable disease.
    Public health conducts a risk assessment and as the subject matter experts provides guidance/direction on who was potentially affected and when to communicate. This practice protects the balance between notification to the right staff/students and protection of the ill person’s privacy.
    The College is not an expert in disease transmission and should not be deciding who or what to communicate in such cases. With respect to COVID, public health, through their contact tracing is reaching out directly to close contacts. There may not be a need for communication directly from the College but again, if it occurs, it is done in consult with public health.
    We ask our staff and students to complete a COVID report form if they are asked to self isolate/confirm positive for COVID. We use this form to inform our JHSC of cases and outcomes. (no names, only dept/programs/outcomes)

    Hi – Fanshawe will have one restaurant open with outdoor patio and offer limited table service (per local restrictions), take-out and delivery within the Campus.  We are also replenishing our vending machines to ensure there are no expired products.  The general message is to come to campus, complete your class and return home lingering is discouraged.

    We’ve closed off our cafeteria seating and lounge areas.

    Hi Lan Chi – Fanshawe is not considering building level limits.  We’ve limited the number of open buildings to minimize the required cleaning and monitoring.  We’ve also restricted capacities at the room level.  We have one room layout for 100 seats for testing (Gym) that will be used intermittently throughout the summer (apprenticeships) and 2 large heavy-equipment labs with 60 students.   All other rooms are 30 or less.

    For the buildings that are open, assuming all classes are used simultaneously, only 1 exceeds 100.

    Fanshawe is planning to open several labs in late July for 2-weeks to complete the face-to-face requirements for the Winter semester.  We’re expecting to accommodate ~1400 students in ~40 rooms.

    We are actively assessing room capacities to maintain social distancing and intend to include demarcation and barriers as necessary.  We have a small task team who are working with the lab techs and program managers to discuss strategies to maximize use while maintaining safety.  Discussions on PPE are continuing but nothing official has been confirmed.

    c) Should we check the temperatures of those who remain on a regularly basis ? What are the procedures you are following while remaining open ? We do not measure temperatures but insist folks do a self-evaluation prior to entering any building.
    d) What if there is a case of COVID-19 ? I suppose that we put everybody left in quarantine and provide care for them. That is the easy part. How will we provide care ? We created a plan with School Doctor and local health unit. Once identified Health Unit takes ownership and control.
    As for closing the campuses, any ideas ? some of my security and housekeeping people are becoming nervous as the cases keep increasing in Ottawa, and we have a couple of false alerts. Until provincial message today, waiting to hear what that exactly means, we still permit limited access
    Is it just me or I am not doing anything else much apart from dealing with questions about this and what to do ? YEP! About 14 hours a day.

    a) ‘Get out’ orders or voluntary departures ? We asked people to leave, we currently have about 40 international students (with nowhere to go) still in residence. We are working them to provide food and support services. We are also preparing ourselves to be asked to repurpose our residence to be used as a critical care centre should our local hospitals be overloaded.
    b) What to do with students who can’t such as internationals ? They are still in residence (for the time being).
    c) Should we check the temperatures of those who remain on a regularly basis ? What are the procedures you are following while remaining open ? We are closed, only 22 people on campus today including Security, Cleaning staff, IT and 3 Facility employees (including myself). Building is locked, entry only available through one door. All non essential construction work has ceased except one project at a satellite campus.
    d) What if there is a case of COVID-19 ? I suppose that we put everybody left in quarantine and provide care for them. That is the easy part. How will we provide care ?
    As for closing the campuses, any ideas ? some of my security and housekeeping people are becoming nervous as the cases keep increasing in Ottawa, and we have a couple of false alerts. Our “close” decision was around March 17th. At that point we had already done our business continuity planning. The next couple days were spent dismissing “non- essential function” people to work from home. The following days, we continued to wind things down as Faculty were in designing the online learning that started today.

    a) ‘Get out’ orders or voluntary departures ?Our students agreed to move out and we are 100% vacant. We do have students who have left articles in the rooms. Pick up requests are treated as the requests come in.

Effective last Tuesday, we only had a few IT employees on site preparing laptops. We coordinate pick-up through security, spacing out the pick-up times appropriately. We have set up some guidelines for both Security and IT to follow. Cleaners remain on site and are doing some deep cleaning. They are working alone, or from a distance. We do have employees who require access to their offices to pick up files. This continues to be arranged similar to the laptop pick-up. The cleaners are notified ahead of time so they aren’t caught by surprise. Employees cannot be accompanied by anyone as all visits must be individual and escorted by security, from a distance.

    We are encouraging students to leave residence but allowing students to stay if they don’t have the ability to go home. We are offering food delivery options to those staying. We are not taking temperatures but providing more education around self monitoring/self isolation/isolation. The discussion around action if/when a student is diagnosed is very much evolving right now.
    We haven’t closed our campuses but all services on campus are closed and being delivered remotely. We are seeing some people come on to campus to collect items and all have to sign in and are advised around social distancing when doing so. We are giving students until Wednesday to come in to collect items. Faculty and staff may have longer but we are reviewing that, We are expecting this may tighten further this week.
    I have my team all working from home with the exception of staff doing essential checks, and they are rotating.
    Thanks for initiating these conversations, its really helpful to hear what others are doing. In such strange and unprecedented times its great to have this network.

    • Students have been encouraged to leave residence, but not ordered. We have slightly less than 300 remaining from the 1600 that were here a couple of weeks ago
    • Most of our International students do not use residence. Reasons for the 300 remaining have not been requested
    • We are treating students in residence as before. No proactive checks, but anyone symptomatic gets checked out and follows normal Health Unit process for followup should they be positive
    • If there is a positive COVID-19 case, the Health Unit will provide direction. This is similar to when a student gets the MUMPS – accommodations would be made for roommates, who would also be monitored, and food would be left outside the room while the patient quarantines
    At Fanshawe we have locked down the campus to students with the exception of the student food service area which we treat as take-out only. We have built a small computer lab in the same area and allow students to use those computers as necessary. Spaced 6ft apart, etc. Security is onhand to enforce and to keep students from wandering.
    Pockets of staff remain. Haven’t been able to send two call centres worth of staff home yet (IT and Registrar). Looking to extend our call centre solution to homes – not an easy or quick solution and dependent on their home network. Some IT staff distributing laptops to @home workers. By end of week we hope to have no IT staff on site. Cleaners scaled back dramatically. Security scaled back a bit but must stay on site as long as we have students in residence. Some cheque-printing still occurring on site as well as payroll work. Those expected to be short, isolated visits to campus.

    At Fanshawe, most of the maintenance team is onsite for the next two weeks. Lots of seasonal startup/shutdown and regulatory work orders to be completed. Some Emergency Management Office staff continue to work to keep life safety systems tested. Project coordinators with active construction projects still on site.

    1. Seneca Mar. 18
    For Seneca, we are taking the following actions as part our COVID19 response:
    • Plan to move as much of our academic programming online.
    • Our services for students are now only accessible online, by telephone or email. There is no counter or in-person service available for now.
    • With the exception of employees who are needed to keep minimum services available on campus, all other employees may work from home.
    • Only Newnham, Seneca@York and King campuses are open to students and only computing commons and student study spaces. Other campuses can be accessed by employees if they choose.
    • Signs / posters have been installed at each campus identifying the importance of social distancing and washing of hands. Within our computing commons areas, signs have been affixed to every other computer to ensure people are keeping appropriate social distancing. IT staff have unplugged the power cord and tuck away the keyboards and mouse to some computers.
    • Restricted entry measures are in place at all campuses. You must show identification to be admitted and you will be subject to health screening. No visitors are allowed. Colin Cheung, P.Eng.

    Canadore College has no student access. After Friday essential services only on site. Most working from home. Courses being delivered online. Nipissing University, which shares the Canadore site is following the same protocols. Site access is controlled through each institutions main entrance. Construction projects are ongoing.     From Georgian’s perspective, we are working to open the Library on Monday at the 3 bigger campuses to students for computer access (Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound). The students must book an appt in advance (they will have a 2 hour time period). After each student leaves, the computer and desk will be cleaned plus regular cleaning of all touchpoints in the area. Our testing services area will be open as well by appt only (but they feel this will be minimal traffic). Will be controlled access into the required buildings and ensuring they don’t wander elsewhere in the buildings where already deep cleaned. We have definitely moved furniture and computers around/out of the Libraries/Testing Centre to ensure social distancing. We don’t know how many students we will get.

    Sault College is providing access to students in one building and for computer access only. The technology and chair at every second computer station (lab or computer common area) has been removed to ensure appropriate social distancing is in place. We have very few students on site and reduced staffing (some working at home). Today I’m expecting that we announce access through one entrance with screening and sign in.

    Lambton closed its doors, Monday at 5pm.
    We are coordinating limited access to our main building, via one entrance, this week, for staff to pick up essentials. IT has redeployed laptops to essential staff, who are picking these up over the next few days.
    We have a limited number of laptops that will be deployed to students. It is our stance that opening a lab will be counterintuitive to the measures taken. We will continue discussions, but I am hoping not to open a lab. This would be a last resort. It’s a balance between student, employee and community health & safety. Not easy for any of us…

    Fanshawe is on lockdown for students. We are looking to create a minimal computer lab in a common area with controlled access monitored by security. Social distancing will be enforced but expected to be a challenge since students like to work in teams.

    We have suspended out construction projects at the moment but we are reviewing this. If the contractors can ensure proper screening and social distance practices they can apply to continue their work. We would need to review what that would mean for any Facilities support requirements. Currently my staff are in our “Christmas shut down mode” and are only on site periodically.

    Centennial College has closed all campus buildings and suspended all classes & labs. Loaner laptops are being distributed to staff if needed, all work is remote from home. Access to campuses is limited to authorized essential services personnel only with pre-approval through one designated entrance point per campus. ALL interior construction projects are suspended until further notice, only exterior work is proceeding, for now.

    This is Fleming’s approach for now, however it will be more restrictive starting tomorrow with pre-authorization required by a senior leader.
    “Effective March 17 the college will enact a controlled building entry model. This is to support our social responsibility to the community and better control social distancing on campus.

    At Loyalist we have kept our computer commons open. We have only one open door and access is limited to only staff and students. EVERYONE must sign-in and sign-out. They must read a notice from the Health Unit and acknowledge they have no symptoms prior to them being allowed in.
    We have removed 50% of all computers in commons and associated chairs to make sure we have appropriate social distancing. Our staff clean all unoccupied computers, tables, chairs on an hourly basis.
    We announced protocol today and it has significantly limited numbers showing up.

    I can’t speak to IT issues however for now the NC campus is open to students. Very few students are coming in. Access to campus is limited to the public areas and one open access computer lab. All classrooms and labs are closed.
    Access to campus buildings is restricted to one door and security is there to greet and ask those coming in to follow a sign in process.
    All this is on our NC website, and could change at any time.

    We are closed until April 5th. We gave students and staff until noon today to get what they need from lockers, offices etc. I can’t speak to the IT connectivity side for students who don’t have internet (I believe our IT people are working on a plan) but I can say we are being very controlled about who is permitted to be on campus. Only one management from my team at a time, one control room operator. No outside contractors unless it is an emergency repair. No construction to finish for year end. Its locked down pretty tight here.

    Fanshawe is nearing the end of an RFP process to select a solution provider to deliver an agnostic, flexible data infrastructure to house sensor data from College systems. The intent is to have a structured environment to:
    a) collect data from the growing list of IoT devices (sensors),
    b) return notifications to stakeholders when exceptions occur (e.g. temperature threshold is exceeded or, sensors do not capture data for extended periods),
    c) provide a location where controlled/ secure access can be provided to operators, academics and researchers to retrieve data sets for further study, and
    d) share trend data and metrics to College stakeholders through reports, dashboards and (no-touch) digital displays.

    We plan to test the proposed solution on a recent solar panel implementation that includes approximately 50 streams of data from device sensors. If successful, we have plans to expands to several additional energy projects.
